Dr Achal Pandya
Professor & HoD (Conservation), Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA)
Dr Achal Pandya is a distinguished conservator and academic, currently serving as Professor and Head of the Conservation Division at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi. He has advanced degrees in chemistry and conservation—including a PhD from the National Museum Institute. His team specialises in conservation of diverse artefacts across India and internationally, offering expertise in museum services, research, and training. Dr. Pandya was instrumental in launching the Re-org Museum Storage campaign in India in collaboration with ICCROM and is an expert member of UNESCO’s Disaster Risk Management for Library, Archives and Museums programme under the Memory of the World initiative.
In 2024, Dr. Pandya spearheaded key heritage initiatives, including a major workshop on Museum Disaster Risk Reduction with the National Institute of Disaster Management. He oversaw the restoration of 150 rare books from the Rashtrapati Bhavan library, including notable works like A Catalogue of the Original Works of William Hogarth and contributed to improving storage systems for over 30,000 artefacts at the Craft Museum in Delhi.
