Dr Pankaj Sharma is a distinguished museum professional and the Director of Archaeology & Museums, Government of Gujarat. With a background in heritage management and prior experience as Senior Curator at the MSMS II Museum, Jaipur, he has been instrumental in expanding museum access and innovation. During the pandemic, he conceptualised Museums at Your Doorstep, a pioneering virtual tour series that reached over a million participants globally, making Gujarat’s museums digitally accessible.
In 2024, he led the development of the Vadnagar Archaeological Experiential Museum which was inaugurated in January 2025. Designed as an immersive journey through 2,500 years of continuous habitation in Vadnagar, the museum is the first of its kind in India, and comprises several thematic galleries. Integrated with an experiential walkway that connects the museum to a live excavation site, the space has been conceptualised in a manner that helps visitors to fully grasp the rich history and significance of the ancient town of Vadnagar.
