Rige Shiba
Museum Education Officer, National Museum, New Delhi
Rige Shiba has been at the forefront of redefining museum education in India. A graduate in History from Delhi University and a postgraduate in Museology from the National Museum Institute, she has pioneered inclusive and interactive learning experiences within the museum space. Shiba is best known for conceptualising Anubhav: A Tactile Experience, India’s first permanent tactile gallery designed for persons with disabilities, created in collaboration with UNESCO. Her educational programmes—including Playtime at the National Museum, Touch and Learn sessions, and Meet a Museum Doctor—are celebrated for their accessibility and imaginative formats. Beyond her institutional work, she is also deeply engaged with the Youth Library Movement in Arunachal Pradesh, fostering reading and storytelling in tribal languages across remote regions.
In 2024, Shiba continued to lead with innovation and inclusivity at the heart of her practice. She expanded the National Museum’s digital outreach to make cultural content accessible to wider audiences, especially children and young visitors, through engaging, play-based learning models. Educational workshops were enriched with interactive formats that encouraged curiosity and hands-on participation. Her initiatives have helped transform the National Museum into a more dynamic, welcoming, and educational space.
