Shilpa Vijayakrishnan
Head of Outreach & Education, Museum of Art & Photography (MAP)
Shilpa Vijayakrishnan leads the Education & Outreach Department at the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP), Bengaluru, a role she has held since the department’s inception in 2016. With a postgraduate degree in Arts & Aesthetics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, she brings a deep academic and curatorial grounding to her work. Shilpa has curated over five exhibitions specially designed for younger audiences and developed a wide range of educational programmes for schools, children, and adults. Formerly the editor of the Tasveer Journal, her writing has appeared in several publications. She has also curated digital narratives for MAP on Google Arts & Culture on subjects such as Women in Hindi Cinema and the Pichwai painting tradition.
In 2024, Shilpa continued to expand MAP’s educational outreach through innovative programming rooted in accessibility and inclusivity. She spearheaded the popular ‘Tuesday Titbits’ series, offering behind-the-scenes insights into museum operations to demystify the institution for a broader audience. During MAP’s flagship Art is Life festival, she curated and facilitated workshops that bridged traditional and contemporary practices, making art engagement dynamic and hands-on.
