The Aga Khan Trust for Culture, in partnership with the Archaeological Survey of India, has inaugurated India’s first sunken museum within the Humayun’s Tomb complex in New Delhi. Located six meters underground, the museum showcases around 700 artefacts—including rare manuscripts, books, helmets, astrolabes, and paintings—many on display for the first time. Blending Mughal craftsmanship with modern design, the structure features elevated galleries beneath a roof inspired by a Mughal garden. Alongside Emperor Humayun’s legacy, the museum also highlights the historical and cultural significance of the nearby Nizamuddin Dargah and its role in Delhi’s Mughal heritage.
