Museum shops and their merchandise give a museum a certain standing — they show that the museum cares about how visitors remember their visit.
People love keepsakes. A beautifully designed bookmark, a notebook with a famous painting on its cover, or a miniature painting on a magnet, allows visitors to take back a memento. Visitors are happy to spend on quality souvenirs that hold meaning and have a story to tell. This makes museum shops earn extra revenue for the museum.
Good merchandise isn’t just for tourists. It makes excellent gifts as well. When someone gifts a scarf inspired by an ancient textile from a museum collection, a jigsaw puzzle of a painting, or jewellery - it becomes a conversation starter. A wonderful promotional material that quietly spreads information about the museum and the stories within its walls.
A museum shop can become a city’s gift shop and a go-to place for the “local”. For there’s a special kind of pride in discovering the treasures tucked within your own city. Stories etched in stone, painted on scrolls, whispered through monuments you’ve passed a hundred times. And when those stories find their way onto a coaster, a clock, a keyring, or a bag, they become more than souvenirs. They become little ambassadors of your city’s soul. You want to use them, gift them, travel with them and share a piece of your home with the world.
No matter how big or small a museum is, a shop filled with thoughtful, well-made merchandise makes it special. A single

We at FroggMag have spent over a decade partnering with museums and public spaces. One of our earliest and most memorable projects was at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. It was the first time we brought a gift shop to life there, and it was deeply gratifying to watch visitors light up as they discovered stationery, accessories, games, and puzzles adorned with motifs from the very building they had just explored.
FroggMag was invited by the Rajasthan Government to design merchandise and a kiosk for the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur. We designed a self sustained Mobile Souvenir Cart. The cart was fabricated in our workshop and literally rolled into the heritage building. Not a nail was needed to have the little gift shop carrying - all things Hawa Mahal - up and running. The fact that it was a kiosk designed to look like the story teller’s Kavaad made it even more popular.
While testing out the kiosk, we felt that special kind of joy visitors experience when they hold a keepsake that captures the spirit of the place they’ve just explored. The excitement and enthusiasm of our customers at the cart was truly infectious, filling the space with warmth and cheer. Every little detail we fell in love with in that complex found its way onto products thoughtfully created to suit every pocket and carry a memory home.
We believe museum merchandise need not be confined to ornamental keepsakes. Everyday art objects — thoughtful, beautiful things like stationery, bags, coin purses, scarves, mirrors, and home and lifestyle pieces such as trays, cushion covers, runners, and games a family can gather around — hold the power to make the experience linger. These aren’t just souvenirs; they’re thoughtful, functional keepsakes that connect people to museums and moments in a lasting, meaningful way and quietly carry culture into people’s daily lives.
A simple, well-written note accompanying a merchandise transforms it from an object to a meaningful story. That small write-up makes people pause, connect, and appreciate the history and art behind what they’re holding. It bridges generations, drawing in children, tourists, and scholars alike, inviting them to learn a little more, take a little home, and carry a story forward.
